Charity

Each year our advisory board has selected a different and important charity to support through our annual conferences.

Anime Dallas in the first year was a very low-key event and managed to raise and donate $8,700 to Disaster Relief USA! John Swasey presented the check directly to Disaster Relief USA after the convention. In 2018 many people’s minds were on the devastation and after-effects of Hurricane Harvey which hit in August 2017 and the damage caused to Texas and its neighbors, and raising money for this charity was something everyone felt to be very important. Disaster Relief USA helped to fund disaster relief efforts and relief services.

The second year (2019) of Anime Dallas, the convention spent a lot more of its budget inviting guest performers, musicians, and adding cool convention events, and we were still able to raise and donate $5,000 to the trafficking victims fund.

In the third year of Anime Dallas (2020), the convention set a capacity limit on attendance in order to enforce social distancing throughout the event in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately people acted safely and respectfully and wore masks throughout the event, and the convention was held safely. Due to lesser attendance the convention’s donation was smaller, but the convention still managed to donate $1,000 for the North Texas Food Bank.

At Anime Dallas 2021 we were able to raise and donate $6,000 to The Trevor Project. The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ) young people under 25.
